Wartime confessions reignite China andJapan's 'war of words'
Beijing (CNN) -- Chinese state mediafrequently treats Japan's atrocities of the past like breaking news of today. But lately, the steady flow of war history-related news has become a flood.
Amid fast-deteriorating Sino-Japaneserelations, China's State Archives Administration recently re-opened case filesfrom a Chinese military tribunal in 1956 and launched a dedicated websiteto publish summaries of confessions by 45 convicted Japanese war criminals.
Among the horrifying accounts posted onlineby Chinese authorities are confessions of raping countless women, buryingpeople alive and performing human vivisections in China -- all handwritten bycaptured Japanese army officers after World War II and long sealed in the statearchives in Beijing.
The Chinese government's target is clear.
"Since the Abe cabinet came into powerin Japan," begins the online introduction to the confessions, referring toJapanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "It has openly confused right andwrong to mislead the public, in an attempt to whitewash the history of externalaggression and colonialism."
“自从安倍内阁执掌日本以来，混淆是非误导公众，试图以此洗白其对外侵略和殖民的历史。”网络招供的引言中如此写到。评论翻译原创翻译：***** http://www.***** 翻译：chen_lt 转载请注明出处
ZephyrusBarackMao • 5 days ago A much stronger country will neverapologize to a weak one. That's why it's so hard for the U.S. government toadmit the crimes committed to Iraqis. Don't assume Germans are a more noblepeople. After World War II, the U.S. and its allies pretty much dominated theworld. Germany simply could not withstand the pressure if it hadn't apologizedto the victims. On the contrary, with the help of the U.S., Japan had a majoreconomy boom after the war and becomes what it is today, a strong and technology-advancedcountry. Whereas China had an all-out civil war, the Great Leap and theRevolution which devastated the entire economy and community. It literallybecame one of the poorest countries in the world. In this sense, there has beenhardly any pressure for Japan to "sincerely" apologize to China, notmentioning following China's order like how Germany did the U.S. after the WW2.I understand why Japan doesn't want to admit its past. It's plain human nature, though it doesn't make the horrible crimes committed justified.
NotAmericanZephyrus• 5 days ago The only way for Japanese to aplogise is ifChina defeats and humbles Japan in such a way that Japanese govt. will have noother choice but aplogise for pretty much anything.
YamatosenkanNotAmerican• 4 days ago This here is a typical sentiment voiced inChina nowadays. Japan has apologized numerous times and gave billions indollars in reparation money. In the 1970's, an agreement was reached to shelvethe past and move on. Yet today, it is as if China just wants a war.
NotAmericanYamatosenkan• 4 days ago An apology is worthless if it is notsincere. Until government officials and school books are allowed to deny thatanything happened and war criminals are allowed to rest in a place of worship,it is all sand in the eyes of China.
I am not Chinese but I am from a country that has the same issue with fascistItaly so I perfectly understand their point of view.
victoryao NotAmerican• 14 hours ago Just look at how Japanese white washedtheir school books and you know why most Japanese youth have completedisassociation with their criminal war. You go and visit the Pearl Harbormemorial and most Japanese tourists conduct themselves as if the war hasnothing to do with them.
Jenl victoryao • 10 hours ago I would guess that young Americans todaysimilarly do not seem themselves as connected to the atrocities that werecommitted in Vietnam.
NotAmericanvictoryao • 6 hours ago I am not surprised . Italians who were theagressor and comitted countlesd war crimes in Slovenia see themselves asvictims of Slovene people who they invaded and genocided in the first place. Itis absurdity beyound belief.
victoryao NotAmerican• 3 hours ago Looks like it is more of a human naturething rather than uniquely Japanese. Thanks for you added comment.
illusivevictoryao • 8 hours ago Dude I lived in Japan and their Historybooks do not contain lies and deceit
victoryao illusive• 2 hours ago Did I say their text books lie? Whatwe are talking about here is omissions. Got it?
Jenl NotAmerican• 10 hours ago I would ask then how it helps your countryto continue to focus on the past? China, for example, does not acknowledge itsmany many human rights violations that are happening right now.
rogerYamatosenkan• 3 days ago China wants a war? China has never sent anArmy beyond its borders. Japan BOMBED PEAR HARBOR! invaded china, malaysia thephilippines etc. etc. etc. including russia! they claim to be the superior raceof asia . so before you speak about wanting a war. but then "thinkersdoers!" explains it all.
travellinglightroger• a day ago What a nonsensical comment. China's bordersare the consequence of war. Conquered territories were assimilated by Chinathus creating expanded borders.
China "has never sent an Army beyond its borders" because it hasalways redrawn its borders to include the vanquished areas, thus the Army isstill within its borders lol. China's history and territorial claimsreflect 2000 years of conquest although not always successful. Ever heard ofVietnam or Mongolia? These represent failures for China's "conquer andassimilate" intentions. China is attempting to revert to the samecenturies' old approach in both the East and South China Seas. China has a dark history of indescribablycruel torture as well. A little research will make this rather obvious. ModernChinese people are generally not very creative but they used to be extremelycreative regarding pain, torture and death. They continue to be inhumanly cruelin their "work" camps. The Japanese learned from the best. Japan's sins are more recent but nowherenearly as extensive as China's, and certainly no more heinous. Do a littleresearch before you open your mouth. Using your brain instead of obviousCCP/PRC propaganda would be helpful as well.
