BEIJING (Reuters) - Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng denounced the United States as "irresponsible" on Sunday after Washington accused China of jeopardizing a deal that aims to cut tariffs on technology products, saying Washington had disappointed participants in the talks.
U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said on Thursday that China's demands to exempt more than 100 products from a technology trade deal risked leading to a breakdown in the negotiations.
"It is irresponsible for the U.S. to discard the consensus that has been agreed by most of the countries only because the deal cannot meet its own requirement for several products," Gao said in a statement emailed to Reuters.
China, he said, had pushed forward negotiations to expand the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) and proven its willingness to improve its offer several times during the talks.
European Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht last week said China's demands were the main outstanding issue in the talks.
The talks seek to expand a 16-year-old World Trade Organization agreement and update it for the Internet era, cutting the import cost of items like personal computers, laptops, telephones, fax machines, computer software and semi-conductors.
China is afraid we will dump cheap substandard goods on them?
china is slowly buying up america and we as a consumer are letting them. we need to STOP buying chinesse #$%$.
Chinese shouldnt talk down to anybody, they manipulate the value of the currency against foreign currency, They steal trade secrets and violate patents.
Make all of it here in the US
china brought nothing good to the world 2day instead manufacured fake n life shortening things. USA hoeeee!
What good is an agreement if no one abides by it ????
The only thing china likes about america is our money. Wake up people! It will only get worse if we dont put restrictions on there garbage coming into America.
We need more tarrifs on goods comming from slave countries. May the bush family be damned for letting china in the wto in 2001.
Sounds fair to me. The U.S. loves to puts high tariffs anyways on Chinese products so China puts tariffs too.
China also widened it's military control areas to include parts of Japan. Russia spanked us. Iran spanked us. Now China is in line to spank us. We need a new president NOW.
If we can't win them squarly, tax them so we can say we won.
There is no need to concede to the US anymore. The country has lost its commanding position in the world today, and the gap between China and Amarika has narrowed considerably.
The Dog House Builder
Making deals and agreements with China is asinine. They cannot be trusted to honor any agreement.
Any country ignoring one of their biggest trading partners is asinine.
Buy "Made in USA" and screw the Chinese government. It is time to bring our jobs and companies back home, and we would not have to deal with them!!! US citizens are only making China stronger by not buying products from their own country. If you are buying "Made in China" quit #$%$ about the US economy.
Since 2001 we shipped 57,000 factories and 25 mil jobs to China. Until/unless they come back we are screwed! To support a nation, there must be at least 25% of its work force in manufacturing. In 2001, 27% of the US was in manufacturing. Today, just 7% is. It will make NO difference who is in office--unless we have these jobs back in the US things will NOT get better.
China should follow the copyright, trademark, and piracy laws before we can deal anything with them. Anything can be counterfeited in China without penalty. Consumers are confused between genuine products and counterfeited ones from China. Companies and people from China has the advantage of using free software from US companies without licensing. Well, they will have severe penalty when hacking software from Chinese companies though. They are really unfair deals. I wonder why the world does not care???
I wonder how much the Post Office charges small items shipped from China. I bought some stuffs shipped from China for only $0.80, and they can make profit out of it. Probably USPS charges items shipped from China to US much less than items shipped from US to China. Is it a good deal for the US? Why US citizens have to pay taxes to support USPS while the USPS supports Chinese companies?
There are a lot of unfair deals between US and China, but US politicians do not care because the Chinese lobby them more than the US Citizens.
As Americans flock to stores in a frenzy to purchase products manufactured in China. China who one day will take control of our country.
The U.S. only owes China 1.1 trillion dollars and owes Social Security 2.6 trillion dollars.
But we have all the natural resources, Just in 2 years have become the biggest supplier of oil in the world. America can over seed the world any time they want and for 1.1 trillion that nothing in the global market.
They said the same thing about Japan. Control us? No. Well maybe with Obama in office. He was spanked by Putin. Spanked by Iran. Now China may spank him also.
