In addition to an active-duty militarynumbering more than 2 million, the Chinese have a paramilitary force withalmost 4 million members. By comparison, the U.S. military has 1.4 millionactive-duty members.
They serve as an auxiliary force for thePeople's Liberation Army, and during times of peace, are primarily concernedwith law enforcement and internal security.
Nonsense. In China there hasstarted to have labor shortages in some places for factory jobs. Chinese policeusually can't use guns so they really need to be a kungfu master doing theirjob. Also in social consciousness soldiers and police are supposed to be"people's sons and younger brothers". You might call that propaganda, but because that, police could often get bullied by ordinary people. This isprobably unimaginable in the USthere police is much more deadly.
China is opening up now is because the lastimperial dynasty, the Qing, intentionally tried to prevent the spread of modernscience and technology in China for fear it would empower the majority of thepeople who were in a difference race than that of the ruling class.
When Qing was overthrown, China was distracted by civil warsand then the Communist movement. Now the world has finally seen the potentialsof the Chinese people when they enjoy peace time. I think some westerners areuneasy with another strong rival but those who are truly competitive will notbe jealous at all.
