Beijing(AFP) - The last county in China to be accessible by modern land transport wasfinally linked up to the rest of the country Thursday with a new road that hastaken decades to build, state media said.

The19,000 people of deeply isolated Medog in southeastern Tibet, where the mightyBrahmaputra river -- known as the Yarlung Zangbo in China -- winds its waybetween towering Himalayan peaks, have until now had to depend on horses forland travel and trade.

位于西藏东南部,这个19000人口的墨脱县之前一直靠马作为陆上交通和贸易的运输工具,流经的雅鲁藏布江在喜马拉雅高山之间穿行。

The117-kilometre (73-mile) road took so long to build because of the precipitoustopography, China National Radio reported on its website.

-Avalanchesand landslides also delayed the project, which includes a 3.3-kilometre tunnelthat turns a four-hour trek over a snow-capped mountain into a less than fourminute drive, it added.

Theroad is initially expected to be operational for eight months a year, statebroadcaster CCTV said.

Thearea is hit by more than 400 earthquakes annually so alternatives to the roadwill still be needed to ensure access, the China National Radio report said.

"Wewill surely have to construct more roads to Medog as it is an earthquake-pronearea," it quoted Tu Yunliang, one of the route's designers, as saying.

Criticsof Beijing's rule in Tibet say new infrastructure such as railways and airportsenable immigration by China's Han ethnic majority, exploitation of itsresources and consolidation of political control.

If youstudy the picture for a short you will notice that most of the cars must havecome from the same boat, they all look the same except for the color and maybea few years difference in age. There is like 5 to six of the same car in everylane! Most seem to be taxis too. Even the larger trucks are painted the samecolor and are the same vintage.

Just spreading the pollution even farther around China, enjoy.

Why not clean up the pollution the cars produce which would go along waytowards better air quality for the people. Most of their newer autos producemore pollution than an older US car would here in the US. Ever seen whathappens to the cars from China when crash tested? its not a pretty sight.

这只会给中国带来更多的污染罢了,好好享受吧。

为什么不清理汽车尾气产生造成的空气污染,这样人们才拥有更好的空气质量啊。中国产的大多数新车比美国这儿的老车还要污染大气。有没有看过中国产的汽车在碰撞试验中是什么表现?真是看不过去。

Nowall china needs to do is focus on improving it's horrific human rights. Humantrafficking is a major problem there. The government is also extremely corrupt.They force cheap labor on their citizens while to governors have overseasfinancial accounts, often moving to another country when they've leached enoughfrom their own country. Critics?Who are they and where do they live? Can they even speak simple Tibet nativelanguage or just Indian flavor English?

When China doesn't do something, they blame Beijing trying to starve thepeople. When China does something, they blame Beijing for pollution anddestroying culture. How can these craps so inconsistent? BTW, the 'Tibets' fledChina with them now live a much poor life compare to those still in China. Eventhe west gave them billions of dollars.
